Chop Wood Carry Water Plant Seeds is a blog about Self-Sufficient Homesteading. How can we live by creating a sustainable bio-diverse world, instead of by consuming and destroying the only one we have? What kind of teaching have you got if you exclude nature?

Silence in the Kindergarden

Its very quiet suddenly all over the place. Kretsloppshuset is empty and silent today and here at the Dagis no one is home, only Bailey and I washing laundry.

Why is the school empty & a New Top Bar Hive

I came to the school today 8:30 and wondered why is no one there? ... Hm ... Im never first to arrive ... Strange ... So i texted Josefine and she told me that both Monday and Tuesday are Red Days here in Sweden, which means we are off from school. Well well, i was here so I thought to be useful and watered all the green house as well as the flowers and the cabbage which is out doors. Emilia and her family watered the onions :)

Since I have two days off and nothing better to do I decided to build a very simple Top Bar Hive. Some students felt the first hive was too complicated so I would like to show them a simple way which is not necesserely more beautifull but hey, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, no? ;)
I will continue building the hive tomorrow.
New design ...

Top Bar Hive Feeder Box

I'v made a feeder box out of a plastic candy box. I drilled one hole into each follower board so bees can enter into the feeder box chamber. Eventhough these bees will get their own honey throughout the winter sometimes if the winter was too warm they will eat faster or if the colony is too small they will eat more than a bigger colony would do etc ... March and April can be a good time for extra feeding.

Cabbage moved outside

The greenhouse is starting to be too warm for the Cabbage which is growing extremely fast. To slow it down we moved it outside.

Natural Beekeeper Per Ericsson

What an interesting day :) Per Ericsson was at Kretsloppshuset teaching us about natural beekeeping. We have learned that bees prefer their own honey to sugar they usualy get during the winter time. What commercial beekepers usually do they rob the bees from all their honey and give them normal white sugar to feed on and then they wonder why bees are so weak and sickly. Well, human Ignorance and Greed have shown its full potential once again (like Ikea in Russia). Hip hip hurey for the human race the "most inteligent" specie on Earth (roll eyes)
