Chop Wood Carry Water Plant Seeds is a blog about Self-Sufficient Homesteading. How can we live by creating a sustainable bio-diverse world, instead of by consuming and destroying the only one we have? What kind of teaching have you got if you exclude nature?

Sustainable Forest Management

Unfortunately the swedish forest management is being thought on the Canada university as the Horror Method, a method to be totally avoided. Sweden used to have an enormous amount of old forest which could support large variety of birds, fungy, insects and all sorts of microscopic life.
Today such species are in decline because they have only 3,1% of old forest left. Most of the species in question need a forest at least 500 years old to thrive. Today most of the forest in sweden is 10-20 years old and the rest 50-60 years old. Most forests get totaly cut down when 80 years old.
The forest supports much more than our need for timber.
